Requirements for a Commercial Driver’s License:
- At least 21 years of age
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License
• 3 years without suspension or revocation
• No conviction of 2 or more serious traffic offenses
- Successful completion of the Map-21 Training Program
- Successful completion of the following IL written tests
• CDL Core test
• Passenger endorsement
• Air brakes
• School bus
- Successful completion of the Regional Office of Education 8-hour classroom training program
- Complete fingerprinting process through a Secretary of State approved facility
- Pass a behind-the-wheel skills test
Paraprofessionals

Requirements for an Educator License with Stipulations endorsed for Paraprofessionals (ELS-PARA):
- At least 19 years of age
- Must provide proof of one of the following:
a. Associate degree or higher
b. 60 semester hours of coursework
c. High school diploma/GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro test
d. High school diploma/GED and a score of 4 or higher on the ACT Workkeys Applied Mathematics and Reading for Information tests
How to apply for a Paraprofessional License:
- Create an account for the Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS) at www.isbe.net;
- From the Action Center, select “apply for a Paraprofessional License;”
- Complete application and pay application fee;
- Have your official transcript sent to transcripts@isbe.net;
- Once the Paraprofessional License is issued, register your license in Region 34, Lake County and pay the registration fee.
Substitute Teachers
- Flexible Schedule
- $130.00/day
Requirements for a Substitute License:
- Bachelor’s degree
- $50.00 Application Fee*
- $50.00 Registration Fee
*The Illinois State Board of Education will reimburse your application fee once you substitute teach for 10 or more days after receiving your license. Contact the Lake County Regional Office of Education at 847-543-7833 for more information.
How to apply for a Substitute License:
- Create an account for the Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS) at www.isbe.net;
- From the Action Center, select “apply for a substitute license;
- Complete application and pay application fee;
- Have your official transcript sent to transcripts@isbe.net;
- Once the Substitute License is issued, register your license in Region 34, Lake County and pay the registration fee.
